Skyworld Aviation celebrates 20 years of trading

2016 is a momentous year for Skyworld Aviation as it is the 20th year of trading for the aircraft remarketing company. Skyworld Aviation began life as Skyways Aviation back in 1996 - a dedicated aircraft trading/consultancy company working for the Swedish regional airline Skyways. At the time, the airline group operated over 50 aircraft and was majority owned by the Salén family. Skyways Aviation was tasked with evaluating and remarketing surplus fleet, and sourcing aircraft on behalf of the group during a time of great expansion.

Skyways Aviation’s first ever deal for Skyways was a Fokker 50/Saab 340B swap with Ansett Airlines at a time when Ansett operated a large fleet of Fokker equipment! Skyways Aviation went on to play a vital role in the introduction of the four-strong ERJ fleet which not only established Skyways as a SAS codeshare partner but underpinned Skyways Aviation’s future success in the ERJ market.

In 1997 Skyways Aviation took on its second employee and the company has gone from strength to strength. Skyways Aviation became 100% independent in 2009 and rebranded to its current name of Skyworld Aviation, reflecting independent growth into worldwide territories with a vast client base. Over the years, the now 8-strong team has achieved a total of more 510 aircraft transactions with a collective value of almost US$1bn, and the organisation prides itself on providing a unique service to the regional airline industry. A list of over 250 clients across more than 60 countries has now been clocked up!

Skyworld’s expertise is not just in the Embraer market, it stretches across all regional aircraft types, and more recently has expanded into ATR and Bombardier products. Overall, approximately 90% of our total aircraft transactions have been in the regional sector, and in the last few years, it has moved from a 70/30 Turboprop/Jet split to approximately 50/50. Recent turboprop activity has evolved into ATR and Bombardier types with the legacy BAE, Fokker and Saab transactions still active, and recent jet activity has seen expansion into the CRJ market.

Skyworld Aviation continues to expand the client base with increased activity with finance institutions and lessors. We are proud to have established partner relationships with many well known organisations in the regional sector, providing aircraft remarketing and liaison services. With our extensive client base and in-depth market knowledge we facilitate transactions that are not immediately apparent on the open market, and we recognise our value in providing a truly unique service in positioning ourselves as The Regional Specialists.
